be prepared
before
setting out:
  • Plan your trip A. route B. timings
  • Check plans are within your capacity
  • Have some contingency plans
  • Leave enough time to be back in daylight
  • Be equipped for cold, wet, food & drink
  • Bring basic first aid & any personal medication
  • Check you kit is in reasonable condition
  • Carry a way of communicating (phone, whistle)
  • NB you will not always find mobile reception
  • Build up some fitness
  • Leave word 1) where you're going 2) ETA
  • ETA = estimated time of arrival
